Product Fit

Who is the Sandbar Adventure for?

This charter fits families and friend groups who want anchored swim time on Biscayne Bay rather than a high-speed tour. Non-swimmers stay on the boat or wear a USCG-rated life jacket in the water. Kids are welcome. Guests who want open-throttle jet skis or a sunset skyline cruise should book those experiences separately.

  • Families and mixed groupsOne private boat, up to ten guests, two hours of swim and relax time on the flats.
  • Non-swimmersStay aboard or wear a jacket in the water. The captain sets the safety call for the day.
  • First-time visitorsA local USCG-licensed captain knows the anchor zones, channel traffic, and tide window.
  • Not the right fitGuests who want a high-speed jet ski hour or a golden-hour skyline cruise — see Miami Jet Ski Tours or the Private Sunset Cruise.

The Charter Experience

What does a Miami sandbar charter actually feel like?

Your confirmation email includes marina meet-up time and captain contact. You board a private boat with your group only. The captain runs out onto Biscayne Bay and anchors on the flats where the water is typically waist-deep on calm days — roughly three to five feet over packed sand and seagrass.

Once the hook is set, you swim, float, and take photos with the Miami skyline on the horizon. Depth drops quickly toward channel edges, so the crew keeps the group near the anchor zone. Low tide and east wind can shorten the comfortable window; the captain chooses the stop for that day.

Nixon Sandbar is open bay water, not a shoreline you walk to from Key Biscayne parks. A licensed captain who knows the flats is the only safe way onto that experience. Wear water shoes — shells and seagrass can cut bare feet.

What to expect from booking to dock return

  1. Reserve your dateChoose your date. Your confirmation email includes marina meet-up location, arrival time, and captain contact.
  2. Arrive & check inArrive at least ten minutes early with photo ID and the card used to book.
  3. Safety briefingThe captain covers life jackets, swim zone, and how to reboard. Jackets stay on until the captain clears otherwise.
  4. Anchor on the flatsTwo hours on Biscayne Bay — swim and relax in the captain’s marked zone.
  5. Return to dockThe crew recovers the hook and runs you back. Ask about pairing a sunset or island day on another date.

Conditions: The captain decides the stop from wind, chop, tide, and USCG safety zones. If the flats are not safe, the charter still runs as a private scenic cruise on Biscayne Bay — or we reschedule or refund per policy.

Safety & Standards

How do you run a safe sandbar charter?

Open-bay flats sit next to shipping channels. A USCG-licensed captain chooses the anchor zone, issues life jackets, and keeps the group inside the marked swim area. Felipe and the crew hold the same commercial standard as every MTWA departure.

  • USCG-Licensed Captain

Every sandbar charter is commanded by a U.S. Coast Guard credentialed operator. Credential standards are maintained by the National Maritime Center (USCG). Meet Captain Felipe and the team.

  • Life jackets and swim zone

USCG-rated jackets are on board. Non-swimmers wear one in the water. Stay near the captain’s anchor zone — depth drops quickly toward channel edges.

The kindness, courtesy, and hospitality Mario and Nico showed my family on our first ever snorkeling adventure was amazing. The explanation of the process and the patience Nico exhibited made the experience enjoyable. Nico was a great captain on our private boat tour. Very personable. I couldn’t swim but he jumped in the water and was the guide for myself and family so we could experience the beautiful sites under the water. The cost was reasonable and definitely worth it (the tour and snorkeling). A must do!

Captain Nico and Javier! Mucho gusto por su hospitalidad. You made our last minute booking comfortable and fun for our family of 4 under 7. From snorkeling to sandbar we saw dolphins, a manatee that swam right under our boat, HUGE conchs and so many cool creatures. For those of us that were hesitant you were patient and encouraging. Thank you for everything. We can't wait to come back and do it again!

Captain Erik was so much fun! He was very knowledgeable about the area and the marine life in the area! While snorkeling we saw conch and stingrays, lots of fish including red tailed snapper and yellow tailed snapper! My husband saw a small nurse shark hiding in the reef and on the way back to the dock we saw dolphins!!! 5 stars!

Felipe was personal, friendly, and very patient. You can tell he enjoys this job. I had a 10-year-old son with me snorkeling for the very first time. My son was so comfortable with him that he held on to the float and snorkel while Felipe dragged him in the water. It was a private boat tour and snorkel. Beautiful view of all the high rises and Felipe filled us in the history. Thank you Felipe for making it memorable.

We had an absolute blast! We booked a 3 hour private boat and we could not have asked for a better experience. Booking the experience was easy, we were met as soon as we arrived and escorted to our boat. Captain Erik was excellent and professional and a really nice guy! He was knowledgeable about the area, we felt safe, he took us snorkeling and was always on top of safety and giving us the best experience. We saw Manatees, we saw dolphins. Erik gave us everything and more! We had time to snorkel as well as swim at the sand bar as well as touring around Fisher Island and all along the coast. Erik could not have been better. We were so lucky to have gotten him as our Captain. Highly recommend. Three hours felt more like five. It was the highlight of our trip! Thank you so much!
